Reflective Journal on Fresh Mart 

 

                    Fresh mart is a project under Introduction to Accounting module. Under this project, students are expected to manage and run a business enterprise that sells variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.

 

                    Firstly, before embarking on the project, I was expecting that this project was going to boost up my confidence level. Then, after a few hours of selling, I realized that my expectation was fulfilled since I was able to approach a lot of strangers around me. In fact, I managed to persuade some of them to buy our goods. Besides, as I was in the vegetables team, I was expecting that my team was going to get the least support from students and lecturers. However, it was not what actually happened on that day. There were some lecturers who were being so supportive. They did come to our booth and buy a lot of vegetables. Moreover, towards the end of selling hour, there was a student who bought all the vegetables that left on that time. With that, my team successfully sold all the vegetables.

 

                    On top of that, there were some issues that my team and I faced when completing this project.  Firstly, after forming a group, we were having problem on selecting what vegetables to sell. To resolve this problem, we decided to get opinions from all the team members and discussed it with our tutor. Skill that I developed when solving this issue was citizenship and global perspectives. This was because of the awareness to get opinions from diverse perspectives in making decision. Then, we also faced an issue in determining the price. Since we learnt Economics subject, we decided to use one of the theories in determining price. The theory that we chose was price elasticity of demand. Hence, I had enhanced my discipline specific knowledge skill as my team and I was able to theories that we had learned in Economics into practice.  Another issue that my team and I faced was problem in selling all the goods as soon as possible. We had a discussion to solve this problem and decided to take pre order from the nearby restaurant. Also, we offered delivery service to them. In solving this issue, skill that I enhanced was thinking and problem solving skills.

 

                    Lastly, I think the experience I gained in this project will be useful to me in the future. This is because I have developed a range of transferable skills such as effective communication, leadership and time management skills from this project. I learn how to approach and persuade customers to buy our goods and how to deal with different kind of people. Next, I also manage to experience basic thing to start a business.

 

                  To conclude, Fresh Mart has given me a lot of experiences and lessons. One of the lessons that I have learned from this project is trust and tolerance are needed in order to have a good teamwork.
